The club was started 18 years ago as a National league club. The club has gone through several changes over the past few years. The name has changed from Devizes Demons to Wiltshire Demons then to Wiltshire Girls basketball club. Now we have reverted back to the name Wiltshire Demons as we are back training with boys and girls. Either doing National league, local league and a Saturday club.
We started off with 30 girls playing in either U14 or U16 National league from around Wiltshire. Then included an U18 squad early on.
Over the years 2002/2015 we had 50 girls join. Some coming from Salisbury, Devizes, Malmesbury, Swindon, Bristol, Wooton Basset, Chippenham, Marlborough and even as far away as Gosport and Plymouth.
Hopefully we can build on these numbers and have players coming from many more different areas.
As they have moved on, we are trying to bring a new generation of girls up through the ranks. Either to play for the National league side, Wiltshire County or even the chance to train and play for South West Squads.
We have had the privilege of working with some very talented girls that have moved onto either a new team else where or been selected for APC (now known as RPC), South West Regional Squads or even the England Development squad.
Players that have achived the chance to go and train with the England Development squads,
Flo Ward, Chelsey Whitters, Ruth Bentley, Tyler Watson & Louise Bouros
In the early years the club helped with the running of the Girls u14 & u15 County Squads for a yearly Inter Southwest regional Tournament which was opened to all girls from around Wiltshire. (Some girls were selected from the School games).
This could lead to selection to u13/15 Regionals.
Also in Sept 2013 we started an Adult fun session on a Thursday night. With funding from Wiltshire council. We then moved it from the school to Marlbourgh lesiure center on a Monday night.
We then expanded the club to include boys once again in 2014 to train on a Thursday night with the help of funding from Wiltshire Council.
